HI, dear supporters,

this is a similar problem to the ones $i\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}$ have been working on. Attachin' pic.

the question asks me to find the area in square inches of section A
section A is a triangle.

so area of a triangle $=\frac{1}{2}\left(b\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}\cdot h\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}\right)$

base= 7 inches
$h\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}=7$ inches

$=\frac{1}{2}\left(49\right)$
$=14.4{\in }^{2}$

the area of the section $A\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}=24.5{\in }^{2}$

is it correct?

Yes, the area is $24.5i\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}{n\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}}^{2}$
It has to be assumed that the wrong $14.4$ in your calculaton are due to a series of typos

Units do not just fall from the sky!

You may write
$\frac{49i\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}{n\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}}^{2}}{2}=24.5i\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}{n\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}}^{2}$
or
$\frac{7i\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}n\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}\cdot 7i\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}n\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}}{2}=24.5i\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}{n\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}}^{2}$
or you may simply write
$\frac{49}{2}=24.5$
The deeper reason for my complaint is the use of the equal sign. The unitless number $24.5$ is not the same as the area $24.5i\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}{n\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}}^{2}$.
BTW, try to type a space between "i" and "n" to avoid this forum software to turn an "in" into the "element of" character $\in$ if used immediately after a number.
