Tag,
can you help me solve this problem. I have studied how to find the geometric ratio of a sequence but this approach with fractions has me baffled.
Danke im Voraus!

The geometric ratio of two numbers is 34 and the 23 of their product is 1152. Calculate the sum of the digits of the larger number.

i will divide both equations. it is easier I think than to solve for x and then for y
23xy=1152xy=34

simplifying it I get,

23y2=1536

I will divide both sides by 23
y2=2304
then i'LL take the square root of both sides

y= +-√2304

y=±48

now I will plug the value of y=48 in the first equation and solve for x,

x48=34

x=36

if I plug in -48 for y, then x=-36

so, if x=48y=36
if x=-48y=-36

the sum of the largest digit when y=48 is 12(4+8)
but if x=-48 then x=-36, the sum of the largest digit will be 9(6+3)

if there is any simpler way let me know, please,
and thanks a lot for the help.

Großen Dank!+

Very interesting what you did there but it doesn't make any sense to build
a ratio out of two equations. Putting two equations into a new relation (like building a ratio) has no justification.
The other way you had in mind sounds better:
solve for x and then for y.

@RASTA I need to revise my last post. What you did there is totally fine. Good job!

@calc007 Danke!

The way you like is this one:
2/3×x×y=1152
which, after simplification, yielded,
x=1728y

I will plug the value for x expression into the other equation.

xy=34
1728y/y

(y⋅ 1728y )/(y×y) =1728y2

so,
1728y2=34

y=48,y=−48
