Tag!,
There are $1400$ students in a school. The teacher to pupil ‘ratio is $1:35$. How many additional teachers are needed to reduce the ration to $1:20$?

well right now there are $\frac{1400}{35}=40$ teachers

to reduce the ration to one teacher per $20$ students $30$ more teacher would be needed

$\frac{1400}{30}=70$

$70-40\left($ teachers that we have now)=30 additional teachers.

Is it correct?
Thanks,

Hello,

It is a little bit confusing. I cannot comprehend where the 30 comes from:

We need $\frac{1400}{20}=70$ teachers. At the denominator we have $20$. The rest is o.k.

Btw, it is ratio, not ration.

mathematical approach using $x\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}},x\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}$ being the number looked for

$\frac{40+x\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}}{1400}=\frac{1}{20}$

$40+x\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}=\frac{1}{20}\cdot 1400=70$

$x\phantom{\rule{0.12em}{0ex}}=30$

$30$ teachers have to be employed additionally.

Ich meinte eigentlich die 30 im Nenner.
