There are 1400 students in a school. The teacher to pupil ‘ratio is 1:35. How many additional teachers are needed to reduce the ration to 1:20?

well right now there are 140035=40 teachers

to reduce the ration to one teacher per 20 students 30 more teacher would be needed

140030=70

70-40( teachers that we have now)=30 additional teachers.

Is it correct?

Hello,

It is a little bit confusing. I cannot comprehend where the 30 comes from:

We need 140020=70 teachers. At the denominator we have 20. The rest is o.k.

Btw, it is ratio, not ration.

mathematical approach using x,x being the number looked for

40+x1400=120

40+x=120⋅1400=70

x=30

30 teachers have to be employed additionally.
